Weaning from Breast to Cup

Problem: My daughter is 13 months and I have just begun to stop nursing her. For the past month I have only been nursing her at night, while feeding her solids and whole milk in the day. She was eating at 11 p.m. and also 6 a.m. I felt we both needed to stop because it seemed she was eating more for comfort than for hunger. She was teething and waking up and wanting to nurse. I began pumping but she will not drink the milk. She will not take formula and will not drink anything but whole milk from a cup. I worry about if she is getting enough vitamins and nutrients. I also worry if I took away the breast prematurely.

Solution submitted by Kristy2 from O'Fallon, MO: Since your daughter is 13 months old, it is fine that she only drinks whole milk from a cup. Most babies are off of formula by 1 year. Mine is 11 months, and I've just started to gradually wean him from formula to whole milk. The experts say you should breastfeed ideally for a year (I did for 6 mths.), so you didn't stop prematurely at all. In fact, you gave her a wonderful start in life. I wish I would've breastfed longer, but my baby wouldn't even take a bottle, so I was the only one who could feed him and became very tied down! Good luck!
