Ages of kids: 7 and 10

Problem: How would you have handled running into a birthday party of a good friend/neighbor where your child was excluded and then having them try to include your child after the fact? My daughter is 10 and her best friend and next door neighbor excluded her this year because they hadn't been seeing each other. I guess if they didn't live next door and hadn't had such a long history it wouldn't of been a big deal but as a parent I felt very hurt with the parent's. Just wondering how others would of handled this situation.
