Problem: I have been trying for the past month or so to get my daughter used to the cup. I try and give her juice at snack time in a cup, but she is really not a big juice drinker. Now I have started trying to give her milk in a cup at lunchtime, figuring one meal at a time would be the best approach. She literally freaks out at times, or takes one sip and that is it!! Once she gets hysterical, I give in and give her the bottle, because what else can I do? It is not that she is so attached to the bottle; she does not hold it herself, and she has never fallen asleep with a bottle. I'm wondering if she is too young, although my mom said I was on a cup at 9 months, as well as my siblings! I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me!! Help!!
Solution submitted by Kristy2 from O'Fallon, MO: I started giving my son the cup at about 4 months. He likes the Playtex no-spill cups, they are kind of similar to the bottle, because they have to suck the liquid out. He weaned himself from the bottle around 9 months old, I think because he was used to the cup already. He's 11 mths. old now, and I'm weaning him from formula to whole milk now. I definitely do not think your daughter is too young, she's just not familiar enough with it yet. It may be the one if you haven't already. My son loves water and that's what he started drinking from his cup (he's not real fond of juice either). You probably just need to keep offering her the cup and eventually she'll take to it. Good luck!!
