Problem: [My two year old son's] latest thing is TANTRUMS! He hasn't done a full blown tantrum, but he has watched the other child in daycare have an all out, fall to the ground, kicking, screaming, headbanging, hitting anything he can get his hands on tantrum. This child also has recently started a speech program for being delayed in all aspects of speech, especially expressive speech, and the tantrums are his frustration at not getting his wants out. Well, my son has watched this kid have 2 really huge tantrums, and today he got mad at me for telling him to pick something up and started to flap his arms and hit the cabinets doors. I told him no and swatted his butt once, and then put him in time out. The most he has ever done before is do the "floppy baby" and fall to the ground when I am holding his hand. Now I am afraid that he will try to tantrum like this other child. He has also seen this other child spanked and slapped for his tantrums. What can I do now to keep my son from tantrumming? He is very expressive and talking 2-4 word sentences. Still baby talk, but more expressive then the other child. Is he just testing me, is this a phase, should I worry?
We are moving in a few weeks away from this other child and I am sure that being out of sight will help, but will it be out of mind???? Please help me.
