Ages of kids: 14, 11, and 8

Problem: I have had problems with my stepdaughter since the beginning of the relationship. Her real mother walked away from the family when the oldest girl was 3 1/2 and the youngest was 4 months old. She has no part of the children either financially or as a parent.

My problem is that the oldest child steals from me and other family members constantly. We have had to put locks on our bedroom doors. She finds my keys and goes into my car. And not once or twice but 20 to 25 times during the past 4 months. She has involved the police and neighbors trying to make them feel she is being abused. She has attacked me and brought blood.

Her dad will not take any firm action. And when a punishment is handed down by me she knows that she can go behind my back to her dad and either get out of the punishment all together or alter it.

I personally see her headed for very serious trouble. I am very concerned about the message the two younger girls are getting from this situation. Still dad seems brain dead. He will not even consider professional help. So do I let her go down in flames and let dad finally end up dealing with the authorities or what? He won't deal with me and I can see this one coming.
