Problem: Several months ago my son began waking in the middle of the night. He would scream until we took him to our bed. We weaned him off this behavior by constantly going in every 10 minutes until he went back to sleep. The problem seemed to be solved. However, just the other night the problem has reoccurred tenfold. Now he won't go to bed at all. He screamed like he was being tortured for two and a half hours. Nothing would soothe him. We tried the ten minute thing, we tried rubbing his back until he went to sleep, sleep. Nothing works. He screams so loudly and for so long that the police showed up at 2:30am. We are distraught since we don't want him accustomed to sleeping in our bed. Further, we can think of nothing that would have prompted such behavior. We can't even 'let him cry it out' for fear of police intervention. Also, he simply won't tell us what is wrong although he is quite capable of doing so.

Editor's Note: Sounds like "night terrors" to me. Do some searching on the web for information about that, and I think you will find that is what is happening with your son.
