Problem: My youngest child is 4 1/2. He has been toilet trained during the day for quite some time, but it took longer for him to stay dry at night. We were living in a foreign country recently and then returned back to the US. My son stayed dry for a while when we returned to the US, but now , he is wetting the bed every night. Sometimes he wakes up in the night and asks to be changed, but mostly, he stays asleep until the am. I have returned to using diapers on him. Each night I ask him if he wants to wear underwear or diapers. I remind him if he wears underwear, he needs to not wet the bed. He is choosing to wear the diapers. I don't make a big deal out of it, but if he is dry in the am, we have a big celebration. Could our move be affecting this? I have never faced this with my other children, so I am unsure how to proceed.
Solution submitted by Mary from New Orleans, LA: When my 4 1/2 year old reverted to bedwetting, I talked to my pediatrician about it. He checked him physically (for bladder infection, etc) then recommended an incentive program. It worked !! We did it in two sessions. 1st a star for every dry night, and 10 stars meant a trip to Chuckie Cheese. It took several weeks to get ten dry nights, but he finally did. Then we immediately went into the second phase which was 10 consecutive dry nights. After a couple of false starts he made it and was rewarded again. We didn't do another program after that and he has stayed dry since then.
