Pre-Teenage Bedwetting

Ages of kids:12

Problem: My 12 year old son has never been dry at night and is a heavy wetter, 2-3 times a night. We've tried several training procedures and even medications but they have never worked satisfactorily. He currently, and for a long time, has worn cloth diapers and plastic pants at night, and occasionally still wears diapers of some sort during the day, as he is very afraid of using public toilets. He is an adopted son, at age 8, and is shy and very clingy to myself (I'm raising him myself). I wonder when his bedwetting and desire to wear diapers will eventually end.

We get our supplies mostly from local suppliers, but there are Internet-based suppliers who deal with these needs world-wide. I'm open to suggestions/comments: lontano@fast.net

Solution submitted by Dr. Manu Rajnani: The main thing in solving this problem is not to give the child any liquids at least 3 to 4 hours before the child gets into bed also the child during day time should be trained to control his bladder that is if the child wants to pass urine you can convince him to try and hold it for some time and postpone the visit to the loo sometimes it can be uncontrollable and child may pass urine in his clothes but in the long run it will help in making the child's bladder muscles strong and thus help in overcoming the overall problem of bed wetting. Also if the parent can stay with the child till he is in deep sleep it helps psychological in building up the confidence of the child. Another solution submitted by Dee: Personally i have never encountered that problem, but have know many people who have. Limiting the amount of milk a child drinks is very important. Exchange juice or water for your evening meal and bed time drinks. Milk can take up to 6 hours to pass through a persons body, whereas, juice and water passes through much more quickly. This way a child won't have as much in their body at bedtime. It's worth a try!
