#!Parentsroom Weekly Poll Results - At approximately what age should children be allowed to go out with their friends WITHOUT adult supervision?
Don't forget to answer this weeks Poll
At approximately what age should children be allowed to go out with their friends WITHOUT adult supervision?
We didn't get too many responses on this poll question. I think it's either because so much of it depends on the individual child and their maturity, and/or because we just don't have that many readers who have teenagers in that age group. Therefore our results here are very statistically incorrect due to the small sample who answered.
Here are the results in more detail:
- 36% said, Age 12
- 14% said, Age 13
- 2% said, Over Age 15
- 7% said, It Depends
The following are some comments we received:
- I would say probably 13. But I do suppose that depends on where the teens are going. And I also think it differs with every child..some are responsible at that age and other aren't.
- I think it really depends on where they are going. Like skating around 10. Movies 12 or 13. Concerts like over 15.
ages vary to on activity and number of people with them.
- It really depends on the maturity of the child...then again, it doesn't seem too safe to send them out alone at any age to anyplace these days.
- Age 12, but not unless being picked up and dropped off by parents/guardians. And all details of outing known and approved.
- I do not believe this question can be answered by choosing a particular age group. The maturity of the child his/her friends and where they are going should be the deciding factor.
- I definitely think this is a varying issue dependent upon the particular child involved and how responsible that child is. Some children at 12 can handle this and some not until they are older. Although I do believe that most children should not be allowed to go to the mall or movies or other places unsupervised before 12.
- Depending on what the kids are doing 12 yrs old seems old enough. Car dating, of course not, or any dating for that matter. Going to the movies with friends sure, why note. It all depends on how mature your child is.
- Despite the efforts of schools, and churches and law enforcement organizations, I am the ultimate authority in my children's lives. the basis of my vote (over age 15) is that we, the parents must take back control of our children's lives through example. Show them that the aforementioned organizations have ulterior motive in controlling their actions and their thinking!
