More 3 Year old Potty Training

Name: Carol

Number of kids: 2

Ages of kids: 6 months and 3 yrs.

Problem: I have a son over 3 years old who is resistant to all potty training efforts. He will sit on the potty at this point only if I offer him something in return, and then he will actually sit on the potty and be productive. He seems physically ready but perhaps not emotionally ready to give up diapers. What do you suggest?

Solution submitted by Jane from WI: Hello! I too am having the exact same problem with my 3 yr old. He understand the whole idea about using the potty but CHOOSES to poop and pee in his pants. He throws a tantrum and says he is going to run away when we try to put him on the potty. It is just awful. Boys are much harder to train than girls are.

I have been reading up on this and everyone says to take the pressure off! I want him trained but the more we push the more resistant he gets. So I am going to be very laid back about this but I refuse to put him back into diapers. He is going to have to wear real underpants during the day and if he pees in them he is going to have to help clean it up. I am hoping that eventually he will tire of the mess and just cooperate. Good luck!
