Ages of kids: 8, 4.5, 10 months
Problem: I am using a live in helper while I am recovering from a set of auto injuries. Does anyone have any hints or advice as to how we should do this for the comfort of all? I am normally a stay-at-home mom and I have not used a full time, or live in helper before. She is 25 and seems very nice.
By the way, I was a passenger in the rear of a van and my 3 kids were also in the van when we were struck from behind and knocked off the road where the van ended up on its roof. Thankfully, my 2 younger children were unhurt, my eldest just had deep leg bruises. I, on the other hand, was on the rear bench seat (Plymouth Town and Country) and the middle seat belt (the one with no shoulder harness) stretched out and I was tossed all over the rear of the van. Two broken forearm bones, broken collarbone, concussion on the head, (which damaged the right eye), right eye is temporarily closed due to nerve damage, plus multiple body bruising and bruised ribs. Whewwww, but that was a month ago and I am healing slowly, but healing.
Anyway, I needed a live in so that my husband could go back to the office again....any advice?? Thank you.
Solution submitted by Selene: Wow! you sound like you had a rough time with all that! it's a miracle you can still type ;-) However, about your live-in help: explain the situation to her, and then, try and treat her like a friend. This will hopefully get you off at least on a good footing (you don't have to be overly friendly!) and if you turn into real friends, all the better. She'll enjoy the work more, you'll enjoy the company more. And, be honest with her, tell her what you think, if she does something different, check it out, it might work! if you think your way is better, discuss it. Make it a respectful and friendly relationship, if she does the same, you should be fine!
