Problem: My son is 3 years old and is having his 3rd open heart surgery in about 2 weeks. He has double outlet right ventricle and mitral stenosis and ventricular septal defects. The problem is that the procedure won't cure his problem. It will however improve his quality of life for a while. His doctor has told us that he will live to be about 10 years old. The only other thing to do is possibly a transplant...I just don't know if we should have allowed them to do the first surgery since it won't save him. I wouldn't trade the time we have had with him because of it. But if it won't help aren't we just giving the doctor our permission to torture him???

Also, I was wondering if anyone out there had a child with a severe heart condition?? There aren't any support groups in my area. So I would like anyone to please respond. I would like to chat with others who have children with health problems that keep them away from other children. I am a SAHM because my child cannot be around other children for fear of an infection. I would appreciate any advice. Send me an e-mail.
