Name: Head Banging Mom!
Poway, CA
Number of kids: 1
Ages of kids: 6 months
Problem: I cam across your Web Page and thought you could help me. It is kind of long winded so please bear with me. I don't know where else to turn. Over the last 4 weeks my 6 mo old son is getting all four of his front teeth at once. He never drooled and all of a sudden, one day he started off drooling all of the time. Then he developed a "snurgly/snorty" type of stuffed of nose sound that has persisted on and off over the last four weeks, and on top of that he has been pulling at his ears. (They are all cut inside from his finger nails and persistent pulling/digging) One day I caught him banging his head against one of his toys that make a jingle sound. I thought it was odd. Then I noticed that he started banging his head on anything. Usually on the side if his infant seat or anything that was there. Now he does it in his sleep. If he can't bang it on something, he will shake it back and forth rapidly. He does this when he is tired or when he seems frustrated. Thinking he had an ear infection, I took him to the Dr. He told me that he did not have an ear infection but did have fluid in his ears as a result of his teething, and that head banging was not uncommon with teething and fluid in the ears. Here is where I need your help. I have never seen a baby bang or shake their head period. I have been around only one baby from birth to now 6 years old (my nephew) and he never did this? My son's teeth do not seem to bother him as they come in? and he is not running a fever. Has anyone else experienced this with their children? Please let me know soon. My mother is making me a basket case with this, because she has never seen it either. I really appreciate anything advice.
