Problem: My 7th grader hates to read. I have hired a tutor and she still hates to read or do homework. We have tried just about everything from offering money, gifts, trips, etc. But it still doesn't work. She has little confidence and I have tried to build it up, but to no avail. What can I do to encourage her? I am very concerned because she will be going to 8th grade, then soon to high school. Please help.

Solution submitted by "^MAMA^" from Etobicoke, ONT, CAN: What is it that SHE is interested in.... find out about it... look for books that will suit her interest. I LOVE books!! Try to remember though that there are some people that just do not like to read, no matter what. It is a part of life that is made a lot easier if it enjoyed:)
