A great set of books is published by the Gesell Institute of Human Development. These are titled "Your One-Year-Old, through "Your Nine- Year-Old" and then one book covers "Your Ten-to Fourteen-Year Old." by Louise Bates Ames, et.al.

Current studies are compared to earlier studies and the authors determined that children are developmentally the same over the decades.

Studies were conducted by personal interviews and questionnaires and are broken down into maturity profiles and traits for each age group and sex. I have only the texts for older children and these cover "Total Action System, Self-Care and Routines, Emotions, Activities and Interests, School Life and Ethical Sense."

When you really want to know whether your child is going through a phase or not and whether it is a natural stage in development, these books are a great comfort.
