Ideas for Getting Toddler to Sleep

I don't think my daughter has slept more than 4 hours at a time since she's been alive! She's 16 months old, and honestly, I'm worn out.   8 hours would be awesome.

We've tried making sure her belly is full, trying to get her to use up a lot of energy (running around and stuff) about 2 hours before bedtime and doing the whole going-to-bed routine.

She goes to sleep just fine... but she's awake again in 3-4 hours.

Any ideas?

Welcome to ParentsRoom!  hi

Whoa, that's pretty rough!  My first was a light sleeper as well. zz

Does she nap during the day?  Have you considered cutting back on naps?

Is there something waking her up?  Maybe a white noise generator in her room would be a good idea... sometimes they wake up because it's too quiet rather than too loud.

Good luck with it!

Re: Ideas for Getting Toddler to Sleep

When my little girl was just a newborn, she would sleep all throughout the night. We had 6-7 hours of uninterrupted good night's sleep. It really just happened that way. I think your daughter is also just that way, too. But the more she gets older, the more she should know that she's expected to be asleep at certain hours without waking up. BY the way, when she wakes up, what does she normally want from you? Does she want you to sing her to sleep again? And what wakes her? Is it a bad dream? Maybe you should try aromatherapy, using burners with essential oils that are relaxing.
