I always tend to think of harder, dryer cookies as being better for shipping, but actually the opposite is true!  Soft or bar cookies actually transport better.

 

While it's ok to add packing materials, it's better to fit the cookies as tightly in the container as possible.  You don't want loose packing peanuts to allow the cookies to shift and break.   It's also better to ship a full container of one type of cookies instead of a variety- cookies can absorb each other's taste and fragrance and end up not tasting like they did when you sent them.

 

A really cute idea is that if you are sending fudge or something like a pound cake or fruit cake is to bake or prepare them in a disposable pan (Check out your local dollar store for a wide variety of foil baking pans) and wrap and ship the entire pan!  Add in a copy of the recipe in case you recipient wants more.
