Real Christmas Tree or Fake?

I do both!!

My fake tree holds the heavy and expensive crystal ornaments I've collected over the years, and my real tree holds my real ornaments- the ones the kids have made for me, family has given and ones from my childhood.

I didn't put up the fake/expensive tree last year because it got too late (and I was lazy!) but this year, I'm doing it all.

I have to have a real tree- it's not Christmas without that wonderful evergreen smell.

I really like the Douglas Firs, although they've been hard to find these past few years.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Re: Real Christmas Tree or Fake?

I don't do a real tree- I just can't deal with vaccuuming up all those messy needles for the next 3 months!  We have a 7-ft prelit tree that we put up every year that holds mostly family ornaments the kids have made over the years, or ornaments from my childhood.  My husband didn't keep up with his childhood ornaments, or they'd be there too.

We make a big deal out of putting up the tree.  We play Christmas music and turn on a fire in the fireplace. (That sounds funny, but it's gas logs.)  Everyone has hot chocolate and takes turns putting an ornament on the tree.  It's a tradition at our house.

Re: Real Christmas Tree or Fake?

I actually LOVE having a cedar Christmas tree and for all the reasons most people hate them. Whenever I walk through the living room and get a sharp cedar needle painfully stuck in my foot, childhood Christmas memories come flooding back. Even years later opening up the old family board games like RISK and grabbing out the pieces I'll get a stray cedar needle stuck under my fingernail. Along with the blood under my nail comes the memories of a house full of family, anticipating Santa's arrival, and pigging out on magic cookies. Yay for real trees and their horrible needles sticking your hands and feet, it's just not Christams without 'em.
