No Screaming Babies Allowed!

This article on Shine points out the growing number of restaurants and other public places that are banning babies.

Quote:
In the latest burst of anti-kids-in-public news, a North Carolina restaurant is making headlines with signage that does not quibble. “Screaming Children Will NOT Be Tolerated!” read signs at the the Olde Salty restaurant in Carolina Beach,  N.C.

It's one more line in the sand(box) by adults who believe tolerance of cranky, crying, noisy (or quiet-breastfeeding) kids has a definite limit when they are around on a plane, in a restaurant, in a bar.

While I think it's clearly inappropriate to take kids to a bar, I think restaurants that ban kids might be going too far.

What do you think?  Is this a sign of the growing number of parents who have no clue when to keep their tired and cranky babies at home, or is it a sign of the times when people refuse to tolerate anything that inconveniences them?

Ideas are worth nothing unless executed

I gotta tell you, I see too many people taking babies out when they are tired and cranky to places they shouldn't be in the first place to blame the businesses.  I think some parents have absolutley no concern for people around them or the comfort of their child.

Well, I understand that some people don't like to be out around babies but I can guarnatee you whether I have my kids with me or not, I won't give my money to a restaurant with a no kids policy.  I think it's terrible.

Honestly, if I'm going out for a dinner without the kids, I don't want to listen to someone else's kids.  It may not be popular to say it, but I think it's a good idea to make it clear whether a restaurant is family-friendly or adults only.  I think how you deliver that message is what is important because there's no need to offend people.

But too many people take their infants places that just aren't appropriate and do not care about any inconvenience they might be causing others.  I'm for a no-kids policy.

Re: No Screaming Babies Allowed!

Hi, everyone. Most people (parents included) do not enjoy hearing a baby cry or a toddler having a tantrum whether it's in a restaurant, grocery store, theater, church or other public area. It's up to the parents to handle the situation with respect to all. If the parents choose to ignore the ongoing disruption, management personnel should step in and request that the child be taken to another location (family vehicle, restroom, etc) until the child calms down. Most parents avoid an ongoing disruption by bringing a diaper bag with items to amuse a child (small toys, books or a lovie). Teddy It's also a good idea to pack snack items in case the child gets hungry.  Children become distressed when they are tired, hungry or bored. If your child is old enough to understand respect for others, explain the rules of behavior and consequences for not adhering to those rules before you leave home. Be prepared to follow through with the consequences. Have a game plan for each situation. baby An outing is more pleasant when everyone can enjoy it.
