Potty Training for a Toddler- Too Early?

Hi All-

Hoping someone has some advice.  I think my 16-month-old daughter is ready for potty training but my mother-in-law thinks it is too early.   She spends workdays with my mother-in-law who won't make any efforts to potty train her because "it's too early."

Is there really a "right" time to potty train?  I mean, what can be bad about trying when she's showing interest?

Thanks

The right time to potty train a kid is when he shows signs that he is ready. It can be as early as 13 months old, or as late as 3 years old... And when he is ready, you will know it is the right time.

Re: Potty Training for a Toddler- Too Early?

Toilet training is merely a process of training a young child to use the toilet both for urination and defecation, though training may start with a smaller toilet bowl-shaped device. Moreover, cultural factors play a large part in what age is suitable, with the expectation for being potty trained ranging from 12 months for some tribes in Africa to 36 months in the modern United States. Most children can control their bowel before their bladder, boys typically start and finish later than girls, and it usually takes longer to learn to stay dry throughout the night. This is a very difficult phase for the parents because this needs patience so that the kids will be properly trained. Parents are responsible for this because there are no trainers available for this, even if they take out payday loans just to pay someone for the training. After surviving this stage, self esteem and autonomy are built as the kids gain more control over their bodies and acquire new skills. Just be patient and everything will just follow.
