Problem: At what age is it O.K. to start disciplining your child? My son is getting into everything now. When can I teach him the word "no"? And what is the safest way to teach it?
Solution posted by "Rstan": I think you can start disciplining your children very young, but by using different techniques based upon their ages. At your child's age, I think just removing him from the situation would be best. As he gets older (and more mobile!) you can try time out in the corner.
Many times just getting them interested in something else will work. Good luck!
Another Solution posted by "Bahama": I agree with Rstan's view on this subject also. You can start disciplining children very young. With a very young child I would start by just removing them from the situation and saying a firm "no" while doing so. They will connect this together and soon realize what "no" means. I am a firm believer in teaching them right from the beginning and not having to change habits that were formed from earlier. That's where many parents can get frustrated.
