Problem: Please somebody help me!!! Can you believe that my 11 month old is displaying temper tantrum symptoms? He whines and cries and gets seemingly hysterical when he doesn't get his way (i.e. something is taken away from him, he is not allowed to be out of my arms on the bus, etc.) I am a liberal parent who began setting limits at about 9-1/2 months. I don't know what to do! When his wants are met he's fine, otherwise I'm going grey! This has only cropped up in the last few days.
Solution submitted by Julia from Boynton, OK: Hi Carrie, this is only the beginning! Here's what I try to do: After awhile you will get a feeling when a tantrum is getting near. Ask yourself honestly, if it is really important to say no or if he can get a step further. My worst problem was first saying "no" and then after evaluation saying "yes." That was getting them confused! If he throws a fit in the bus don't get embarrassed, most people had their own experience with that. It is not that uncommon. I also figured out before I take something away I get something, they really like and trade with them. If you are lucky they accept the deal:)
Peace, and happy parenting.
