My sister gave birth to a beautiful little girl a few weeks ago that has severe cleft lip and palette. When we go out in public people will start to say "how cute" and stop mid-word. Needless to say, this hurts my sister's feelings. She has decided to handle it by jumping in and saying "yes, she's adorable, isn't she?" This puts the admirer at ease with an alternate word besides 'cute', and shows them this baby is loved and adored no matter what she happens to look like, or what other people happen to think.
