Problem: My daughter-in-law's water broke during the early am however, she did not start any contractions. Her Doctor induced her vaginally. With the first contraction the baby's heart rate dropped and did not come back up. They gave her a shot to stop the contractions. They stopped. The baby's heart rate still did not come back above 30. They gave her oxygen, no increase in heart rate. They had her turn over to several positions, no change. They finally did an emergency C-section. We have been told a total amount of time lapsed from the first heart rate dropping to delivery was approx. 50 minutes. (10 min. minus one hour). My grandson's name is Samuel. Sam's eeg at first showed no actual brain activity. 5 days later his eeg showed seizure activity only. 5 days later there was no seizure activity and what they called, a small amount of brain activity. We have been told he has no gag reflex, however, a nurse stated she felt there was a slight gag reflex. He made no sounds until this last week, now we have heard Sam cry. He is now 5 weeks old. He was born on Feb 3, 1998. Sam now has a G-tube inserted into his stomach, he is now up to 70 cc of mothers milk. He weighs approx. 7lbs. 14 oz. What we are looking for is how to stimulate his gag reflex and to make the sucking motion and swallowing. Please give me any information you have available or a hospital that would be willing to take on this child as a project to help us insure Sam has all the chances he can in order to survive with as healthy and viable life we can help give him. Thank you for any assistance anyone can give us. E-Mail: dckc@pacbell.net
