As we all know the amount of projects and art works that preschoolers and elementary children bring home can be overwhelming. Since the kids enjoy their projects so much and the pieces really can show a child's stages, I wanted to keep much of what they brought home. Without having a storage room just for their projects, I've now devised a method where I collect all art pieces and projects in a large bag in our hall closet. At the end of three months or when the bag is full (whatever comes first), I plan a video tape session with the children where they take out each of their projects and explain how and where they did it and what they think of it. The kids really look forward to this videotape session since they are the stars talking about their own works of art. Once the video tape is done, the projects can be tossed out with the knowledge that you and they will always remember the art works.
If an item is especially cute or meaningful, I will have it matted and framed like a piece of art and use it as such in our home. It's amazing how professional nice matting and framing can make a 6 year old's work look.
