5 Yr. old Started Exhibiting Agressive Behavior in School

Name: Kathi

Phillipsburg, NJ

Number of kids: 2

Ages of kids: 5 and 12

Problem: My 5 year-old son has been bothering the other students in kindergarten i.e., pushing, pinching, punching, kicking and has also exhibited this behavior in his day-care. He had no problems of this type in pre-school where he was all day until he started kindergarten and his new day-care this past September. The teachers are afraid that he will not have any friends and that he will hurt the smaller children at the day-care. He is a very smart boy and has a very good personality. He is in time out most of the time at day-care, it just isn't making a difference. In kindergarten he has to be separated from the other students. Please help with any advice. Thank you.

Solution submitted by Mira from Salem, OR: The child does not seem completely mentally ill. He still has hope. He sounds frustrated with home problems. I think you should look into family counseling. It my seem like the worst thing to do right now, but it will help greatly. Just give him some space.
