Problem: My son is causing a lot of trouble at school. He continuously aggravates other kids by talking loud in their ears, taking things away from them and by just being obnoxious. His teacher is quite frustrated because she has talked to him and he isn't changing his behavior. My husband and I have talked to him and it hasn't done any good...all we get are blank stares and an attitude. He has been getting steadily worse since Kindergarten. Pretty soon he will have no friends at all. Any suggestions?
Solution submitted by Mom42 from South Bend, IN: Your son sounds like he is looking for attention. Have you addressed
the classroom situation? Is it a calm and orderly classroom? I have found with my son who had and still has the same problem that if you have an orderly classroom he concentrates better. We were in a public school that was whole language based. They had tables to share. They also shared school supplies. We discovered that if he was in an environment that had desks, a place of his "own," His "own" markers, scissors, etc. he was a better behaved student. My son requires an orderly learning atmosphere with distinctive guidelines and rules. Get the book
"Parenting With Love and Logic : Teaching Children Responsibility" by Jim Fay, Foster W. MD Cline for more suggestions. It's a great guideline to raising responsible and orderly kids.
