Problem: My six-year-old daughter wants to wear nail polish because her friend does (as do many of the girls in her class). I view nail polish as "makeup" and feel it is inappropriate for six-year-olds. It bothers me to see parents perpetuate the belief that girls are simply show-pieces that must be painted, curled, fluffed, etc. How can I explain my nail polish objections to my daughter? Or am I over-reacting? Does anyone else feel as I do, that little girls should be little girls and not miniature women?
