Ages of kids: 3 and 12

Problem: My 3 year old boy will not use the potty for a b.m. He will pee in it all day, while wearing underwear and pants, on his own, but will stand behind his bedroom door and poop in his pull-up or underwear. Even after going on the potty two minutes before for a pee, it is so frustrating. Tonight he went 3 times in an hour, three different sets of clothes and even after making him clean himself up, he says he is not pooping on the potty. He has never been spanked or threatened, but yet he seems to be afraid to use it except to pee in. If I know he is going to go I will try to catch him and take him in there in time and then he just holds it in until he has something on. What do I do??
