Problem: My 2 year old is a very picky eater. The doctor has become concerned that he is not gaining the weight that he should. (He weighs 25 lbs and is 2 yr old) We try to get him to eat a balanced diet, but he refuses to eat a lot of the items offered to him. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Solution submitted by EMMUM from the UK: I'm sure you've tried most of this but here are my suggestions. Make sure he doesn't eat snacks etc.. between meals and just give water, not juice to drink so at least he should be hungry when meal times come around. Try making the good look fun - smiley faces, animal shapes etc.. Do you eat with him? Kids tend to eat more if they have company - not just watching them but eating with them. Can you invite friends of his own age around to eat with him occasionally? Peer pressure can work wonders. Although you've said that the doctor is concerned - are you? If he looks well and is happy then I wouldn't worry too much - children tend to eat the amount they need and providing what they do eat is nutritious and healthy, then he'll be ok. Oh, one other suggestion - get him to help you prepare the food - kids like to eat what they've helped make! Good luck.
