Name: Jo

Number of kids: 2
Ages of kids: 11 and 14
Problem: My 11 yr old son hardly eats. There are very very foods that he even likes and when he decides that he likes one food the next week he doesn't like it any more. The only thing I can make for him that I know he will eat is a ham sandwich. Bread, salad dressing, ham, cheese and tomatoes. Oddly, he really likes tomatoes. He usually will eat two whole sandwiches at lunch or dinner. My husband thinks that I should just make dinner for the family and is he eats it...he eats it...if he doesn't...well then he doesn't. This is turning my kitchen into a short order cafe. The other kids will eat most anything and don't have this food problem but if they are just not in the mood for chicken tonight they want me to make them something 'special' too. I really need some suggestions for foods that my son might like that the whole family can eat.
My son is also very small for his age, he is 11 and weighs 60 lbs. His father and I are both relatively small people (I'm 5'3" and his Dad is 5'8") The last time he was in for a physical (a yr ago) the doctor showed no concern for his size. He just said that he is small but not too small to worry about it. His only comment on the eating is that kids will eat when they get hungry. He has grown 1 1/2 inches in the last year so I do know he is growing. I am just afraid that when he goes to Middle school next year he is going to be teased because of his size. Also when should he start puberty. To my knowledge he is not growing hair, should I be concerned. The older boy is my husband's by his first marriage and he was already going through these changes at this age and has always been big for his age but both his parents are large people. How concerned should I be?
